Safety & Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Administrator - ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

 

The Safety and Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Administrator will ensure all manuals and programs are maintained to Federal regulation standard and facilitate training in all departments. The Safety and Hazardous Materials Administrator has authority to act for the Company in said matters. This individual must possess full understanding of the entire contents of the General Operations Manual, Safety Management System (SMS), Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Manual, Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), applicable portions of the Operations Specifications, applicable portions of the Training Program and Federal regulations pertaining to airline safety and hazardous materials.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop policies, procedures, forms, and reporting mechanisms to support Air Choice One SMS covering the following operational areas: organization and management, flight operations, maintenance, in-flight, ground handling, cargo, facilities, and environmental health and safety
  • Monitor all air carrier activities to permit continual identification of hazards or incidences of regulatory non-compliance and works with Regulatory Compliance department
  • Establish and maintain Company SMS in accordance with Federal regulation
  • Review report submissions to the SMS and procure all related safety reports; detail safety issues and incidents, and maintain a database in order to monitor and establish trends
  • Manage and maintain Emergency Response Manual (ERM) and make revisions as necessary
  • Maintain and facilitate revisions to the Company's HazMat Manual through constant analysis and changing regulations
  • Review non-dangerous and dangerous goods checklists for all cargo carried aboard Company aircraft
  • Assess stations for continued environmental compliance with hazardous materials and work with airport management to ensure local and Federal compliance with hazardous materials regulations
  • Work with Regulatory Compliance in case of incidents/accidents during investigation, review, and analysis process
  • Represent and submit required reports to FAA, DOT, and other government organizations with regard to safety and hazardous materials
  • Monitor and review Federal regulatory sources, including Federal Register, for regulations and proposed rules which may impact operations
  • Develop and maintain procedures, policies and documents for manuals related to ASAP
  • Work with Regulatory Compliance and Event Review Committee (ERC) on all reports for the Company's ASAP
  • Facilitate and conduct training of Company personnel in both safety and hazardous materials

 

Qualifications:

  • Complete understanding of SMS, ASAP and other FAA processes/programs available to air carriers
  • Ability to review and process analytical information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare and present briefings to senior company officials and subordinates
  • Must have computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and other Microsoft Office applications)
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of automated information systems, office procedures, and data processing with emphasis on aviation operations
  • Skill in interfacing effectively in a complex and dynamic work environment
  • Strong organizational skills with an advanced ability to multi-task and schedule
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks and non-routine matters, including domestic and international flight operations, rules, regulations and procedures
  • Must have a valid passport
  • Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in duties, responsibilities and activities as they may change at any time, with or without notice

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Aviation, Safety, or equivalent

 

Hours:

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)
  • Overtime will be required
  • 10% travel is required (domestic and international)

 

Compensation:

  • $40,000 (this is classified as a Salary position)
