Summary of responsibilities:

The Safety and Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Administrator will be responsible to the Director of Operations for all matters related to the safety and hazardous material operations with the airline. They will ensure all manuals and programs are maintained to Federal regulation, and facilitate and maintain all training with all departments related to safety and hazardous materials. The safety and hazardous materials administrator has the authority to act for the Company in matters relating to said functions.

Have knowledgeable understanding of the entire contents of the General Operations Manual, Safety Management System, Hazardous Materials Manual, applicable portions of the Operations Specifications, applicable portions of the Training Program, and Federal regulations pertaining to airline safety and hazardous materials.

Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities:

  • Develops policies, procedures, forms, and reporting mechanisms to support the Air Choice One Safety Management System (SMS) covering the following operational areas: organization and management, flight operations, maintenance, in-flight, ground handling, cargo, facilities, and environmental health and safety.
  • Monitors all air carrier activities to permit the continual identification of hazards or incidences of regulatory non-compliance and works with the Regulatory Compliance department.
  • Establishes and maintains the Company's Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance Federal regulation.
  • Review report submissions to the SMS and assist in processing the reports.
  • Monitors all air carrier activities to ensure the safest practices are being maintained.
  • Procures all related safety reports and detail safety issues and incidents and maintains a database in order to monitor and establish trends.
  • Develops, administers, and manages a Safety Awareness Program (SAP) and Emergency Response Manual (ERM).
  • Maintains and facilitates revisions to the Company's Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Manual through constant analysis and changing regulations.
  • Reviews non-dangerous and dangerous goods checklists for all cargo carried aboard Company aircraft.
  • Assess stations for continued environmental compliance with hazardous materials at all airports and work with airport management to ensure local and Federal compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
  • Facilitates and conducts training of Company personnel in both safety and hazardous Materials, as their jobs require.
  • Works with the Regulatory Compliance department during all incidents and accidents in the investigation, review, and analysis process.
  • Submits required reports to the FAA, DOT, and other government organizations with regards to safety and hazardous materials as required by Regulation and as per the Director of Operations.
  • Monitors and reviews all Federal regulatory sources, including Federal Register, for regulations and proposed rules that may have an impact on operations.
  • Represents the Company to the FAA, DOT, and other government organizations for all safety and hazardous material matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to review and process analytical information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present briefings to senior company officials and subordinates.
  • Must have computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and other Microsoft Office applications).
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of automated information systems, office procedures, and data processing with emphasis on aviation operations.
  • Skill in interfacing effectively in a complex and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with an advanced ability to multi-task and schedule.
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks and non-routine matters, including domestic and international flight operations, rules, regulations and procedures.
